Right on 11am, students and bookworms alike joined the nation for Simultaneous Storytime and read The Brothers Quibble.
The event, to encourage the young to read, is in its 15th year.
Albury North Public School has celebrated the event for five years and teacher Liz Dick said it helped youngsters realise reading played a vital role in all facets of life.
“We like to show children people from all walks of life read,” she said.
The Albury Library Museum and Lavington library held events.
Albury Council’s Caryn Giblin said almost 500,000 children had participated last year.
“We are proud to play our part in such a fantastic event,” she said.
“The books explore age-appropriate themes and address key learning areas of the national curriculum and the pre-school early-learning- years framework.
“It’s also a great chance to showcase the variety of services the libraries offer.”
The event is organised by the Australian Library and Information Association. A picture book, written and illustrated by an Australian, is featured each year.
