It was his 31st goal of the season, 21 of which came in the Premiership, second only to Sergio Aguero. Still only 21, it's no wonder his value is rated around £45 million ($89.7 million), even though he boasts only two international caps.

Roughly 83 hours after bagging the winner at Goodison Park, Kane - the new wonder boy of English football, and likely successor to Wayne Rooney as Fleet Street's favourite target - would be strolling around Sydney Harbour, soaking up the sights during a rare breather in what has been an extraordinary breakout season.

Just to underline the point, it was during transit that Tottenham stopped off in Malaysia to take on a selection of players from the local league (mostly foreigners, including ex-Socceroo Robbie Cornthwaite). Dubbed a "circus match" by the British press, Kane couldn't help himself. In a 2-1 win, he scored both of Tottenham's goals in the first 42 minutes.

Now he's in Australia to face Sydney FC in front of a crowd of up to 70,000 at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night. And while he might still be trying to work out exactly what timezone he's in, the "Hurri-Kane" doesn't want to stop punishing the opposition.

"It's not been a bad season," Kane said with a wry smile. "I have enjoyed every moment of it, but a lot of it's not sunk in yet. I'll probably be on a beach somewhere soon before it does sink in."

Kane, and his teammates, will undoubtedly try to sneak a peak of Bondi - just as Manchester United did two years ago - but it will only be fleeting. As soon as Spurs are done in Australia, most will go on holiday. Except for the striker, that is, who will lead the line for England at the under-21 European Championships next month.

"I enjoy football. I love playing the game, and I just want to keep playing," he said. "Our visit to Australia is a great chance to keep my fitness high before I take a little break and focus on next season."

Upon touchdown at Sydney Airport on Thursday morning, the two-time English champions - and eight-time FA Cup victors - were showered with acclaim by hundreds of their Australian-based fans. Despite the jetlag, mixed with fatigue from the match in Malaysia on Wednesday night, Kane was overwhelmed by the reception.

"Sometimes playing in the Premier League you don't realise how much support you've got around the word," he said. "It was an amazing turnout. God knows how many fans were there."

When quizzed if the claims from Southampton striker Dani Osvaldo that Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino - who coached the Saints until last season - made his players "suffer like a dog" in training, Kane admitted the work was fierce, but not fatal.

"He works us hard - maybe dog is a bit strong," Kane joked. "He's a great coach. We've learnt the way he works and it's been tough but it's been a great season. We've all enjoyed it. I think it's helped us, we've scored a lot of late goals and that's proved our fitness."

With their press conference quickly wound up, plenty of which bathed in self-promotion for government and marketing figures, the Spurs' players moved on to their real task for the day: climbing the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

For that, Tottenham midfielder Ryan Mason claimed he already had "sweaty palms" about going up. The same could be said for the Sydney FC defenders trying to figure out a way to halt Kane and co.

"Football is a team game," said right-back Sebastian Ryall. "We are all very much aware of the talent in the Tottenham squad, but it's very much a team game. We pride ourselves on our defence."
