The 200-centimetre giant dominated for the Ovens and Murray’s under-19 team last weekend and shapes as a huge inclusion as Darren Ogier’s line-up tries to consolidate its grip on second spot on the ladder.
Ogier was full of praise for King.
“Our high-performance manager, Matt Glossop, has labelled Mitch’s rehabilitation program the most thorough and professional he has seen at the club,” Ogier said.
“He has set the benchmark for others in terms of his diligence and contribution to the team.
“I watched him play for the O and M last week and it’s clear he is ready to play TAC Cup football.
“Everyone within the club is thrilled for him and we acknowledge the work of Dean Harding and the Wodonga Football Club in its care and support of Mitch through the early part of the season.”
Lavington youngster Jack Kirley, Mansfield’s Tom Gardiner and Deniliquin’s Jake Marshall have also come into the team, with David Mennen, Harrison Payne, Ryley Sharp and Levi Middleton dropping out.
Kirley, 16, has played several senior matches for Lavington this season and was the Ovens and Murray’s best player in the under-19s against Hampden last weekend.
“Jack is a great story after being promoted off our rookie list a few weeks back,” Ogier said.
“He has played senior football under James Saker at Lavington which has provided a great platform for his development and given him an understanding of the work required at the next level.”
The Bushrangers, who will fly to the Northern Territory today, will stay at the Michael Long Centre which is one of the best sporting and education centres in the country.
“As a club, we aim to constantly challenge our players to adapt to new situations,” Ogier said.
“There is no tougher road trip in football and we look forward to seeing how the boys prepare and gel with a single focus on the game.
“While it will be exciting for our squad, it is critical that they are professional in their approach.”
