Farrah-Seaton made the final cut for coach Paul Goriss’ 12-player roster, joining WNBL players Tahlia Tupaea and Lauren Scherf, along with college athletes Alicia Froling and Kristy Wallace.
Seven of Basketball Australia’s Centre of Excellence scholarship holders — who played against Farrah-Seaton and the Albury-Wodonga Lady Bandits last night — were also selected for the tournament to be held in Chekhov, Moscow.
A delighted — and relieved — Farrah-Seaton was still coming to terms with surviving the gruelling selection process.
“Yes, really good, all the hard work has paid off,” Farrah-Seaton said.
“It was pretty tight for spots, a lot of similar players all going for a place on the team, so it pretty much came down to the last training session.
“I’m very relieved, it’s a pretty confronting process but that’s also part of becoming a professional player.”
The Gems will leave Australia on July 3 to play two games against the Netherlands in Amsterdam, as well as holding a mini-training camp.
They will then head to Spain for a tournament against the Spanish, Canadian and US before arriving in Russia two days before their Group D campaign begins against South Korea, Brazil and Serbia on July 18.
“I’m not going over there expecting to play massive minutes,” Farrah-Seaton said.
“I’ll just do the role that’s expected of me, I’ll spend the next few weeks working on the areas I need to be strong in.
“All of us wing players are expected to run hard, play defence, create shots and make plays.”
