Ms McGowan made it official yesterday that she would stand again, as she competed against Indigo councillor Don Chambers and Victorian MP Colin Brooks in a celebrity grape stomp as part of Rutherglen Winery Walkabout festivities.
Ms McGowan showed sufficient technique and tenacity to win the contest but she was reticent when it came to talking about whether she could hand on to seat in the political race.
“I’m now only two years into my term and, hopefully, the government will go the full term,” she said.
“Whatever happens is a long way off.”
Ms McGowan said she had made her announcement to show the electorate she was “in it for the long term and was fully committed to Indi”.
“People are being very supportive, saying they hope I run again,” she said.
Ms McGowan said key issues such as the NBN rollout and mobile phone blackspots would remain a focus of the job.
“I’m giving people the confidence that the job is going well,” she said.
Ms McGowan said she had put serious thought into whether or not she would run again.
“It’s a real commitment and I wanted to make sure I could commit,” she said.
“It’s a very big decision but I’ve got unfinished business.
