Albury Regent Cinema has a new program that provides patrons with independent or obscure movies that otherwise wouldn’t hit the big screen.

Working with ticketing website Tugg, the centre will host one-off screenings, provided there are 50 bookings for a movie.

Regent Cinema marketing manager Lucas Mellier said the concept had proved successful since it was introduced several months ago.

“We’ve already had a showing of Frackman,” he said.

“It had bookings for had 200 people for one session so we held a second session with another 100 people.

“We’ve also shown Small is Beautiful for 112 people.”

Those wanting to see an independent movie can visit the Tugg website and choose from a catalogue.

They can then book a day and time for it to be screened and the Regent Cinemas will hold the showing.

It is up to the person who booked the movie to sell the tickets through the Tugg website by promoting it on Facebook or other social media sites.

“It gives people a great opportunity to showcase their movies that otherwise wouldn’t get seen in a theatre,” Mr Mellier said.
