AHEAD of Liberal Party preselection for the seat of Indi at the end of this month, Sophie Mirabella has made a bold, but some would say smart move to admit she “got it wrong” in taking her support for granted ahead of the 2013 election.

Mrs Mirabella has sent a letter to Liberal Party members asking them to give her a second chance to win back the seat from Cathy McGowan, contrasting the independent’s “lack of achievement” with her strong track record of delivering for the community.
The mea culpa offered by Mrs Mirabella is the first time she has publicly taken responsibility for what she describes as being caught in “the Canberra bubble” and failing to spend enough time in Indi despite devoting considerable time to her shadow cabinet duties ahead of the 2013 poll.
Her admission she has a renewed perspective for the North East “where my home and heart is” will most certainly win her support among party members who continue to believe Mrs Mirabella will give them the best chance of winning Indi back.
For those still unsure as to whether they should support Mrs Mirabella, Andrew Walpole or Kevin Ekendahl, the letter will help them to a final decision.
