While she may have had to gently let him down, in one sense his dreams did come true and tonight he will help launch the Commercial Club Albury’s Beatles Weekend as the frontman for Beatles Magic.
“I was about three or four years old when I discovered The Beatles,” Croft said.
“This began my life’s obsession with the four lads from Liverpool.
“It was through the 1960s cartoons that were replayed on television in the 70s and 80s — and not realising they were real people I just thought they were cartoons.
“Then my mother informed me that you were able to purchase their records.
“So from that day on, for every birthday and Christmas, all I wanted was Beatles records and there were so many to choose from.”
This is the second year that Beatles Magic will have performed at Albury’s festival.
They will launch the festival with four, 40-minute sets from 9pm tonight at the Commercial Club.
This year each of The Beatles bands, which also include The Fab Four and The Beatlez, has been assigned an album to cover.
Beatles Magic will play A Hard Day’s Night as well as a mixture of The Beatles’ No. 1 hits.
Events and marketing manager at the Commercial Club Jacqueline Kelly said the Beatles Weekend had been moved to avoid clashing with other events, with shows being held inside the club itself.
“We are excited to hold the Beatles Weekend again,” she said.
“Pre-bookings have been hugely popular and we are nearly full, but if guests wish to come on the day there will be other seating available.”
