The Auxiliary Bishop of Astana, Kazakhstan, Reverend Athanasius Schneider will be giving a talk on the “original and divine meaning of marriage” at the Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Thursday.
Reverend Schneider was invited by Wagga diocese Latin mass chaplain Reverend Father Terence Mary Naughtin, who said the traditional values of marriage needed to be promoted for the “silent majority”.
“The bishop is a component of spreading tradition of the church and keeping it alive,” Father Naughtin said.
“A lot of young people are searching for meaning in their lives and are looking to be rooted in something beyond peripheral society.”
Father Naughtin encouraged Reverend Schneider to the Border as he was already visiting Australia.
Father Naughtin said Reverend Schneider was an internationally renowned speaker who would talk about how marriage has pre-dated religion and people on the Border needed to hear his message.
“The push for same-sex unions will be a defeat to humanity,” he said.
“Left-wing media is happy to have their voice heard but we need to be heard as well.”
The talk at Holy Spirit Catholic Church will begin at 7pm ahead of a Solemn Pontifical High Mass at St Patrick’s Church on Friday at 6pm.
Father Naughtin said the mass would be the first held in Albury in 70 years.
