Boyd was given the nod after his four-goal game for the Western Bulldogs against the Brisbane Lions on Sunday, in what was the most imposing performance of his career.
The 19-year-old left the Giants at the end of last season after Ryan Griffen quit the Bulldogs, and after a nine-game start in 2014 has played every game this season.
Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge — who joined the club after Boyd — praised the young forward’s professional attitude and willingness to work hard.
Boyd is the Bulldogs’ second Rising Star nominee this season after Mitch Honeychurch.
