That’s why tomorrow’s memorial cup, named after the former Wodonga hockey club president who lost his battle with cancer 12 years ago, continues to be a key to the Bulldogs season.
This year the clash takes on even greater significance after Wodonga knocked off the previously unbeaten United last weekend to set the scene for the second plays third contest.
Present day president Kyle Brereton said the 12th anniversary of the cup would again raise money for cancer awareness among men.
“Dave loved the clash with the Magpies,” he said.
The Wodonga Club will be raising money for “Call To Arms”, an initiative driven by the Victorian Cancer Council for raising the awareness and fight against cancer for men.
“All players and spectators have been encouraged to wear yellow arm bands to support the initiativ,” he said.
“Over the years we have raised upwards of $10,000 and hopefully we can keep the barbecue ticking over all day to achieve a similar donation.”
Games start at 11am at Wodonga Hockey Centre.
