Angus Ward, manager of Ulladulla, has spent three years establishing new high input pastures to carry an 850-cow beef herd and followers.
Mr Ward has worked with Mark Lucas, Pasture Agronomy Services, Gundagai, to achieve average daily weight gains of up to 2 kilograms in feeder steers over winter/spring.
Ulladulla runs a 850 spring calving angus cow herd, using Twynam and Reiland angus bulls, and turning off steers to feedlot entry weights of 450 kilograms.
One of the paddocks earmarked for renovation was sown in 2013 using a disc drill to Silamax Duo (Winter Star annual ryegrass, Bolta balansa clover and Nitro Persian clover) with 150kg/ha of single super for silage production.
The pasture produced 500 square bales, weighing 320 kilograms each.
In autumn, the pasture was resown to 20kg/ha of Stabiliser (Winter Star annual ryegrass, Fitzroy perennial ryegrass and Banquet II perennial ryegrass) and 3kg/ha Zulu arrowleaf clover, with 100kg/ha of DAP.
Mr Ward said Pasture Agronomy Services had assisted with advice on the cow herd structure, bull selection, through to pasture and cropping requirements.
