Many places recorded up to 50mm or more between Monday night and Friday morning, June 19.
This month’s total rainfall at some places has exceeded the average.
Moree, with 47.6mm to Wednesday morning June 17, had its wettest June day for 10 years.
Some places in outback Queensland received much-needed rainfalls. Roma, which had its coldest morning for June since 1949 nearly three weeks ago, received 53.2mm to 9am last Wednesday and this made it the wettest June day since 71mm fell in the same month of 1981.
Cunnamulla received 40mm and Mitchell 62mm last Wednesday morning; the latter place having its heaviest June rains since 1987.
There were severe frosts in the Yarra Valley.
Coldstream recorded minus 4.7 last Sunday morning, June 21.
There were only two colder mornings in June at Coldstream in the past 22 years; a reading of minus 5.8 on June 18, 1998 and minus 5.1 on June 23, 2013.
After these two episodes of low June temperatures at Coldstream, it is interesting to note there was widespread heavy rain in our regions about four days later.
It was third time lucky the middle of this week.
The first heavy winter rains arrived in Western Australia around Perth during the past few days as a deep complex low moved in from the Indian Ocean.
This situation brought some heavy isolated rainfalls to the Gascoyne and Pilbara regions, which have been warmer than normal in June.
This will be favourable for more rain in our regions this week.
