The Roos put up a far better effort against the Tigers than Myrtleford and Wangaratta Rovers have in recent weeks, with only a 10-minute lapse in the second quarter bringing them unstuck.
In-form Tiger defender Luke Packer was a shining light in the dour win, while Joel Mackie, Brayden O’Hara, Justin Carey, Michael Duncan and Luke Daly also played well.
Tiger co-coach Daniel Maher was happy to come away with the four points.
“Full credit to Corowa-Rutherglen as they brought a lot of intensity and effort to the table for four quarters,” Maher said.
“We just had to grind it out.
“We need to work on our starts but you can’t be too disappointed with a 30-point win at Corowa.”
Corowa-Rutherglen should have gained confidence from the performance, but could be without star utility James Brain for this weekend’s clash against Wangaratta Rovers after he injured his hamstring.
Sam Carpenter was outstanding in the clinches for the Roos, Al Austin played well in defence and youngsters Ryan Garthwaite and Jack Schilg held their own.
