The Dellacourt Hostel resident yesterday celebrated her 100th birthday and, while she may not get around as much as she used to, the action-packed life she’s led has kept that twinkle in her eye.
Miss Webber, who never married, may be familiar to Border Mail readers: she and her twin sister Nancy Martin have featured several times previously.
Though Mrs Martin died last year, she wasn’t far from Miss Webber’s thoughts on Saturday, as she celebrated at the West Albury hostel with family from right around Australia.
Miss Webber moved to Albury from Sydney in 2005, five years after her sister and across the road from her at the Murray Gardens Retirement Village.
But prior to that, her wanderlust always got the better of her: she would work and save to travel as often as possible, leading to trips almost “everywhere” — even Timbuktu.
She even found herself kicking up her heels on a boat to England with the 1948 Australian cricket team, nicknamed The Invincibles, including the one and only Don Bradman.
For Miss Webber, the need to keep active was obvious.
“Well, you get bored with yourself if you don’t get up and get going, don’t you?” she said.
