The team lost only two games for the day — the first and last they played, both to Geelong.
In between, they strung together nine wins including a two-goal semi-final triumph over arch rival Goulburn Valley after trailing 5-0 in the first of two eight-minute halves.
Coach Kelli Moylan said it was an outstanding performance.
“In recent years we have been beaten in the semi-final, so to get to the final and be beaten by that side was no disgrace,” she said.
“They were simply phenomenal, clearly had the benefit of having played together for sometime, were well-drilled and had a shooter that was as tall as Jane Cook.”
Moylan said it was a tough day at the office.
“To play nine round robin games, a semi and then lose the final 19-12 was an incredible effort,” she said.
“All these girls had played for their club sides on the Saturday, travelled down that night and started early this morning.
“But special mention to our defenders Sarah Meredith and Jacqui Newton who played every minute of every game.
“They are only slight but were really solid for a pairing that were playing together for the first time.
“I think Sarah only played on one shooter that was smaller than her.”
