Some may be surprised the Liberal Party voted — and very enthusiastically, according to some reports — for her to represent them in the next federal election.
But what other choice did they have?
Neither Kevin Ekendahl nor Andrew Walpole have the profile to make an impact, and impact is what will be needed to win back the North East electorate.
Mrs Mirabella lost by just 439 votes in 2013, two-party preferred.
On that basis, half this electorate wanted her, not Cathy McGowan.
On that basis, presumably half will vote for her again.
The remaining votes needed to get the Liberals over the line will be a tough fight and one that will undoubtedly come down to how all candidates present.
Mrs Mirabella has now claimed responsibility for the 2013 election loss and talked of a focus on the grassroots.
Those who did not vote for Mrs Mirabella last time for whatever reason, including those who turned away from the Coalition fold, will be watching very closely over the next 18 months to see if they will get a new Mirabella or if their old concerns still hold strong.
