The man was one of at least three people targeted in the region over the weekend, with his Nissan Navara stolen from the yard of his Station Street home.

The thieves had rifled through his jean pockets and taken his car keys, wallet and other items, before leaving with the utility.

At least three other vehicles — two belonging to Gerogery woman Fay Purdy and another owned by a Culcairn woman — were taken on Saturday night and yesterday morning.

Mrs Purdy said she was feeling shaken after her cars were stolen from her house on Main Street about 2.30am yesterday.

Both vehicles were recovered with significant damage.

“I’m gutted,” the pensioner said.

“I live 30 kilometres from Albury and I rely on having a car all the time.

“It’s my only means of transport to get food, go to the doctors, everything.

“There are no buses or public transport.”

Ms Purdy, 72, had been sleeping when her dogs started barking.

She believes the Subaru and Ford were both pushed out of the driveway before being started and driven away.

Number plates from another vehicle were stolen from the property.

“My dogs started barking but unfortunately I didn’t go out, and they stole them,” she said.

“It must have been more than one person for them to do what they’ve done.

“God knows what would have happened if I had have gone out.

“These people just don’t care.”

The vehicles were used to do burnouts before being dumped at Culcairn, where a Holden Commodore was stolen.

The owner yesterday used social media to appeal for information on the theft.

It’s believed police pursued at least one of the cars stolen at the weekend.
