The Black Dog Institute, a not-for-profit mental illness education group, is offering a free training program.
Bipolar sufferer Dale Skinner, a volunteer with the institute, has been educating people on the Border on mental health issues for many years.
The Border resident said volunteers should be passionate about mental health and may have even experienced a form of it themselves.
“We want people to be comfortable to speak in front of strangers and maybe share their own experiences,” he said.
“Having bipolar myself I am very motivated to reduce the stigma around mental illness through education and sharing of personal experiences to empower and offer hope to others.”
“It gives me great sense of purpose to be able to share my story to help people in our community.
“For anyone who shares the same passion, I would encourage you to get involved in the Institute’s volunteer program and together we can try to stop people from suffering in silence.”
The one-day training program will be held in Albury on July 30.
