Jake Kermond, 19, had been on holiday in the resort town of Whistler in British Columbia, and had last been seen in a hotel lobby on April 26.
He was reported missing four days later when he failed to check out of the hotel.
A body was found by a cyclist about 40 kilometres away from the resort on June 17.
The body has not been formally identified but is believed to be that of Mr Kermond.
The body was located on a rock ledge in a working quarry, which had resumed operations after closing for winter.
Whistler-based Pique News magazine reported a cyclist had made the discovery during a ride about 6pm.
Bright police are working with Canadian authorities to formally identify the body, and it’s believed the death is not being treated as suspicious.
Dental records and mouth swabs have been sent to the country and autopsy results are pending.
“We’re assisting Canadian police in regard to confirming an identity,” Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll of Bright police said.
“Police still can’t confirm who it is.
“They have to determine the cause of death.
“The Canadian homicide squad are involved purely due to the circumstances.”
Mr Kermond, a keen skier, had lived in Harrietville and had worked at the Snowline Hotel to save money for the Canada trip.
He graduated from Bright P-12 College last year.
