WODONGA needs to keep building momentum as a growing regional centre in order to move towards its 2033 vision, claims the author of a public policy book.

Asher Judah was one of the guest speakers at a Wodonga community forum discussing the city’s progress towards its long-term plan of priorities, actions and projects.
Mr Judah wrote The Australian Century, which offers a positive vision for Australia’s long-term future, particularly Australia’s regional capitals.
The Wodonga 2033 Vision was created in 2008 following community consultation.
It was the first time the council had undertaken a long-term projection of the city’s priorities and values.
“Regional towns that aren’t growing are shrinking,” Mr Judah said.
“In the 20th century Wodonga was a shiny pearl on the Hume Highway necklace and this century it needs to become the feature stone.
“Wodonga needs to differentiate itself and can’t be content with just being another shiny pearl.”
More than 150 community leaders from residents, religious leaders to business people and education workers attended the forum.
Wodonga mayor Rodney Wangman said while a great deal had been realised in the past seven years, it was important the community had a chance to give feedback.
“We want to make sure we continue to work together to make Wodonga a city in which people want to invest, work, live and raise their families,” he said.
