A photograph of the burn out vehicle appeared in The Border Mail yesterday and police believe the car, and the thieves, are connected to other criminal offences in the Wodonga area.
Thieves broke into a home in Cole Court, Wodonga between 4pm on Friday, June 26 and 8am Saturday, June 27 where they stole the keys to the car and some personal items.
Wodonga Detective Acting Sergeant Ian Deverell said someone had to have seen the car parked somewhere or being driven around before it was set alight.
“We are after more information on where the car has been between when it was stolen and found,” he said.
“The car had a distinctive rego and plates.”
Meanwhile, another car stolen from Jindera earlier this week was burnt out in Wodonga yesterday morning.
The 2008 Holden SS Commodore was set alight by thieves on Garnet Circuit in West Wodonga about 6.15am.
The Commodore was reported stolen some time between 10.30pm Tuesday and 5.10am Wednesday from a Gibson Street home in Jindera.
It was stolen alongside a 2014 black BMW X5 station wagon, which was found on Wednesday in Thurgoona Street.
Wodonga Sergeant Amanda Meagher said police were investigating.
“We urge people to ensure their vehicles are locked and the keys are secure and there are no valuables left in the vehicle,” she said.
Anybody with information should contact Wodonga police.
