An extension of the city’s fibre network is set to commence through the second half of next year.
It will include the suburbs of Glenroy, Hamilton Valley, Lavington, North Albury, Springdale Heights, Thurgoona and urban parts of Wirlinga.
The move follows NBN releasing an updated national rollout plan, which now finalises the rollout schedule of Albury to start throughout 2016.
Member for Farrer Sussan Ley welcomed the news.
“Construction will commence on a further 1900 homes and businesses, complementing the go-ahead given for the majority of the city, around 9000 premises, earlier this year,” she said.
“It is very important to receive accurate information from NBN so that homeowners and businesses can be sure when this superfast broadband technology will actually be available.”
In April, Ms Ley announced the go-ahead for the majority of the city to receive the NBN, but not all areas were included.
“This latest update on the NBN national roll-out plan closes the gaps, which is something that we and Minister Ley have been lobbying very hard for,” Albury mayor Kevin Mack said.
“It’s critical that all residents and businesses have access to this superfast broadband technology and I am thrilled that this will now occur next year.”
Communications Minister Malcolm Turnbull said the progress of the rollout to date showed the government’s reforms of NBN were ensuring the rollout was completed sooner, cheaper for taxpayers and more affordable for consumers.
“The arrival of the NBN means opportunities are extended to all Australians, regardless of where they live,” he said.
