I FULLY appreciate the importance of employers taking responsibility for providing a safe workplace “Man was drunk so unfairly sacked” (Border Mail July 1), however I’m concerned that Fair Work Commission decisions like this one remove any responsibility from individuals for the choices they make, such as how much alcohol they consume.

Instead of being able to put on workplace events where staff can relax and socialise together, employers will put on entirely ‘dry’ affairs that no one will want to go to.
Please don’t misunderstand me. I’m not saying alcohol is necessary in order to have fun. But, just like good food, in the right amounts, it is a fabulous addition to a good night out.
I’d love to see common sense prevail where people don’t get to let someone else take the blame when they make silly decisions.
