WANGARATTA missed their opportunities to score an upset victory over North Albury last week, something they can ill-afford to do again when they face Albury this afternoon, coach Brendan Cairns says.

After falling short by just six points last weekend, Cairns knows it’ll take a much more comprehensive effort to keep pace with a dominant Albury outfit.
“I couldn’t fault the effort and intensity of the team last week,” the coach said.
“But we missed a few opportunities at various stages to win the game, so that’s an area we’re going to need to improve on against the Tigers.
“You don’t get a whole heap of chances against the Tigers, so we have to make the ones we do get count.”
While his side was more than competitive against the Tigers when the two sides last met in round three, in which the Magpies led at every break before going down by 21 points, Cairns warned that the Tigers side they face today would be different to what they came up against earlier in the season.
“The Albury game was a long time ago now, they’ll have regained a few players that were out for that game,” Cairns said.
“We need to bring the same mindset we brought to last week’s match today.
“It can’t just be up to a small group of players to carry the side, there needs to be 21 leaders out there, taking it to the 21 out there for Albury.”
