The blaze broke out at a farm on the corner of the Kiewa Valley Highway and Quoney Road about 10am yesterday.
Wodonga firefighter Lyndon Bradley said the work shed, which measured about 20 metres by 40 metres, had been engulfed and about 10 fire trucks called to the scene.
“It had hay and items like motorbikes, machinery, and tools, just general items,” he said.
“There was extensive damage to about 90 per cent of the structure and its contents.”
A CFA fire investigator was called to the area to investigate the cause.
Mr Bradley said about 30 firefighters had battled the fire, which was extinguished by about 12.45pm.
“The cause at this stage is unknown,” he said.
“I can’t comment on the cost but there is fairly extensive damage.”
Firewood near the shed did not catch alight during the blaze.
The property owner, who did not want to be named, said he was impressed by the actions of the firefighters and said he would pay them back for their help.
“I’d like to thank the CFA for their attendance, they’ve done a great job,” he said.
“I’m going to go down and give them a donation.
“We’re pretty resilient.
“It’s was just an unfortunate accident.”
The shed, which was used for a business, was insured.
The fire is being treated as non-suspicious.
