It is alleged the 17-year-old boy held up the taxi driver, 62, with a knife last Wednesday night.
The boy was arrested at a home in Gap Road, Glenroy, just before 7.30pm on Saturday.
He appeared before Albury Children’s Court on Saturday via video link on charges of robbery armed with an offensive weapon.
He was remanded in custody to re-appear in court at a later date.
Police allege the taxi driver picked up a male passenger on Borella Road, who asked to be taken to Lavington via Eastern Circuit.
Upon arrival at Eastern Circuit, police say the passenger threatened the driver with a knife and demanded cash.
The driver refused and tried to keep driving, leading to a struggle between the pair, and the male passenger ran from the car.
Paramedics treated the driver for shock.
The incident was the fifth hold-up of a taxi driver in Albury in the past eight months, leading to suggestions drivers should have security screens.
Last week, Albury Inspector David Cottee said it appeared taxi drivers were targeted because they operated alone and may be carrying cash.
He did not believe drivers necessarily needed more security; whether or not they chose to beef up securitywas an issue for taxi companies.
Albury Radio Taxis secretary Helen Peters said the incidents were unfortunate, and that there were already security measures in place.
“Travelling at night our drivers are aware of these issues,” she said.
Ms Peters said drivers could make emergency calls.
