The arrests come after another armed robbery in the city’s residential streets early yesterday morning, when two young people were held up with a weapon and had a mobile phone stolen.
Police on both sides of the border are now investigating the group’s possible connection to the recent crime wave in both Wodonga and Albury that’s seen a spate of stolen cars, car fires and aggravated burglaries.
With three already in custody, Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said he expected police would soon be making more arrests in relation to the crimes seen in the past few weeks.
“The arrests today should hopefully put a stop to (the crimes),” he said.
“We’re investigating this group in its entirety and we’re keeping an open mind, but from our investigations so far we believe this group have been doing the majority.
“We’re working with NSW Police as well to bring it to an end very quickly.”
Police arrested the 13-year-old at a West Wodonga home just after 8am.
Later yesterday morning, they executed a warrant at a Magnolia Crescent home and arrested two other boys, 17 and 18.
They were questioned in relation to the string of burglaries on Saturday, when a group of three people broke in to four different homes between midnight and 4am.
Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer said those burglaries were followed by an armed robbery in Emerald Avenue just after midnight yesterday, when a group of three males in a car approached two youths walking home and used a weapon to threaten them, making off with a mobile phone.
He would not say what type of weapon was used.
That group was travelling in a stolen Triton utility, which has still not been located.
Detective Sergeant Simpfendorfer was confident police would track down everyone involved in the recent crime spree: “They’re more than welcome if they want to come in and meet me, but we will catch up with them very shortly.”
He warned homeowners to amp up security with break-ins at similar points of entry.
“Lock your house, lock your garage, lock your car and secure your valuables,” he said.
