Simon Miller and Nick Souquet lead the jockey title on 30 wins with John Kissick in hot pursuit and one win behind.
Wagga jockey Andy Bloomfield also remains in contention on 26.
Souquet last claimed the premiership in 2012-13 after he also won a string of titles during the 1990s when he was the regular rider for the era’s dominant trainer, Richard Freyer.
The leading hoop said it was still too early to worry about jockey premierships.
“Richard Freyer always used to say to me you start worrying about premierships on the last race on the last day of the season,” he said.
“Another gem of wisdom was you can’t eat premierships, but if you are winning premierships, you are generally eating pretty good.
“So it will be just business as usual for me for the remainder of the season and I will head to the races and try to give my mounts the best possible chances.
“If it happens (the jockey premiership), it happens.
“But I’m up against three other talented jockeys and it wouldn’t surprise me whoever won it.”
Souquet has seven mounts on the nine-race card at Corowa today but wasn’t confident of adding to his season tally.
“They look to be seven even rides and I could walk away empty handed,” he said.
“But I could land a winner or two as well, it just looks like that sort of meeting.”
Brett Cavanough will need to pull a rabbit out the hat if he is to claim his 11th trainers title in the past 13 seasons.
Trevor Sutherland leads the race on 26 with fellow Wagga trainer Chris Heywood trailing by one.
The pair are well clear of third-placed Cavanough on 20½.
After Corowa today, the remaining meetings are at Wagga on Friday, Narrandera on July 19 and Wagga on July 24.
