The Roos are smarting after a narrow loss at home to Tarrawingee last week, and Murray needs more from his midfield to beat the undefeated Kelly Tigers.

“We’re looking forward to it, we’ve worked hard to get to where we are after an up and down start to the season,” he said.

“It’ll be good to see if we’ve made ground on the top teams.

“There aren’t a whole heap of injuries to speak of at the minute, so we don’t have a whole lot of excuses as far is that is concerned.”

While Glenrowan is unlikely to lose its grip on the minor premiership, even with Milawa in hot pursuit, Murray said the Kelly Tigers were just the scalp King Valley needed to establish itself as a contender.

“I thought we competed really well against Glenrowan last time we played, but we relied too much on rebounding from defence as opposed to winning it from the middle,” he said.

“If we’re able to rectify that and put some scoreboard pressure on them early, I think we’re a really good chance to give them a proper run for their money.

“It’ll also take the pressure off our defenders, guys like Josh Roman, Daniel Bruce and Adam Williams have been fantastic in moving the ball from the backline, but the Tigers are so good with their ball use and we need them to concentrate on defending.

“If you give good sides like Glenrowan a sniff, they make you pay for it, and we can’t afford to do that.

“But we’ve identified what went wrong against Tarrawingee, and if we get it right there’s no reason we can’t claim a big scalp.”
