Daemon Wolfe moved to the city early last year after failing to find services in Albury-Wodonga to treat his alcoholism.
He had told The Border Mail in January last year that he had been turned away from Albury hospital due to a lack of beds and had tried in vain to get into a detox and rehabilitation program.
At his worst, he drank 11 bottles of wine a day, and he had shared his story in a bid to get help.
He had been living in Canberra and was reported missing in the suburb of Greenway last Thursday.
His body was located on Saturday morning and police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
Anyone needing help can contact Lifeline on 13 11 14.
