Artist Kate Bland journeyed more than a thousand kilometres to the Gold Coast on Wednesday in an attempt to get megastar Johnny Depp to autograph a portrait she painted of him years ago.
Depp, who is in Australia filming the next instalment of Pirates of the Caribbean, stopped to inspect the painting after Ms Bland stood and waited for more than three hours.
“I’m a big Johnny Depp fan – I think he’s amazing and quirky – so it was well worth it,” she said.
“He thought my painting was fantastic.”
When Ms Bland found out Depp was in the country she immediately wanted to meet him.
“People said I should get him to sign the picture but I just thought ‘how the hell would I do that’,” she said.
She then posted on her Facebook what she wanted to achieve and a friend, whose father was Depp’s bodyguard, contacted her.
“They gave me the information about where I needed to go,” she said.
Ms Bland said another friend Katreena Collins made the meet and greet possible.
She offered Ms Bland a place to stay and drove her 30 minutes to meet Depp.
Ms Bland returned to the Border on Thursday with plans to hang the signed portrait proudly on her wall.
