New look easy to read
AS a person who has always had The Border Mail delivered every day, and whose partner reads it religiously while having breakfast every morning, I was delighted to see the change this morning.

I am a person diagnosed with Macular Degeneration in the past two and a half years.
Reading the paper became very difficult as there was not a lot of contrast of the ink on paper, and the print even seemed blurry to me.
I still had to try to read it but the pleasure had gone for me and my partner would often read out bits that he knew would interest me.
This morning I was excited to see the change, sharpness of print and contrast made my reading of articles enjoyable.
I still don't have time to read it as much as my partner but I will want to pick it up again through the day.
We have always been happy with the balance of content as you are kept up with local through to worldwide news and events.
Well done on the improvement.

It’s time to talk
THIS year, over three million Australians will experience depression or anxiety or both. Today, seven Australians will die by suicide
It may be someone in your family, a person you work with or a mate on your footy team. You may have noticed something is amiss, but you’re not sure if you should say something or mind your business.
You’re not the only one. Many people don’t know what to say or worry they could make the situation worse by approaching the person.
However, reaching out to someone you’re worried about is often the catalyst for that person starting on the road to recovery.
To help people to have what could be a difficult chat, beyondblue has produced a guide on how to Have the Conversation.
The guide explains how having a conversation can help people feel less alone in getting help for anxiety and depression, and what to do if your attempt to have the conversation is met with a bad reaction.
If you are struggling but don’t know how to reach out, or you’re concerned about someone else, but don’t know what to say, visit www.beyondblue.org.au/conversations. You can also speak to a mental health professional any time, day or night, by contacting beyondblue’s Support Service on 1300 22 4636.
It’s better to put your hand up if you need help, or lend a hand if someone is struggling, than not to say anything because you’re not sure what to say. Depression and anxiety won’t get better without help.

Minor players hold power
I WONDER how the public could have voted the LNP into power. The opposition was not much better – time for a change.
Let us give more power to Independents and minor parties, then we just might approach something called "democracy".
As for the LNP's approach to renewable energy, I have only a few of words to describe it – "crass stupidity" comes to mind, plus "vested interests".
I used wind and solar power when I was living in the Mallee.
With an adequate storage system we had no power bills whatsoever, which is what the LNP is afraid of.
But it will come to that, leaving the oil producers to supply heavy trucking and rail.
Why the obstinate resistance from this government?
