The Albury-Wodonga Bandits are seemingly stuck on an infinite loop of inconsistency, unable to string either consecutive wins or losses together.
Indeed, the Border outfit hasn’t enjoyed a winning streak since defeating Geelong and Hobart almost a month ago.
And while a 2-3 record since then isn’t ideal, other results around the league means the Bandits still hold second spot in the SEABL’s East conference standings.
Regardless, Albury-Wodonga got a reality check in last Friday’s defeat to the Nunawading Spectres, the first loss for the Border club at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre this season.
Bandits coach Brad Chalmers admitted his team’s inability to take winning chances when they presented was starting to wear thin with the playoffs in sight.
“It’s a bit frustrating, we’ve definitely had chances to do it,” Chalmers said.
“And from that, we could’ve gotten some momentum and gone on a bit of a winning streak.
“Instead, we’ve had no momentum and that led to last week.
“But that’s last weekend, I haven’t seen a team shoot against us like that for a while.
“So we need to start stringing wins together, to only get split results from here to the end of the season would be very disappointing.”
The Bandits face a tricky road-home double this weekend, starting with Friday’s trip to Frankston to take on the South conference cellar-dwelling Blues.
It’s been a happy hunting ground for the Bandits at the Frankston Basketball Centre, having not lost there since 2011.
From there, Albury-Wodonga must back up at home against the Kilsyth Cobras on Saturday night, with the Snakes no doubt keen to avenge their round 11 defeat to the Border club.
The Bandits emerged triumphant with an 88-81 win on the back of Deba George’s 30-point performance.
“We always say we’ll take the first game on its merits but we definitely need a clean-sweep,” Chalmers said.
“If we stay on this form track then we should get a win.
“But then we have to come home and close out the weekend with a win over Kilsyth.
“We’ll need to be really switched on, just trying to get a good level of consistency.
“We’ve shown in patches we can outscore anyone but we need to do that for longer periods.
“But that’s part of our growth process too.”
Tip-off at the Lauren Jackson Sports Centre is 8pm, with the Lady Bandits’ game against Kilsyth starting at 6pm.
