I stand behind my view
IN reply to Daniel Searle's letter (The Border Mail, July 13) about what I wrote with regards to the same sex marriage bill, I stand behind it.

Every registered voter in Australia should be the ones to decide this very important issue, not the politicians.
Cathy McGowan did not win the election on this issue; she may have raised the subject of same sex marriage somewhere during her campaign, but she did not win the election because of this.
Let me also point out that Cathy McGowan did not win the election by any landslide; the incumbent Sophie Mirabella lost the election because the people of Indi had enough of being ignored by her and became focused on her own ambitions, forgetting the people of Indi for 12 years, and that's how Cathy McGowan got elected by a very small margin, and still a cloud hangs over certain matters relating to the residential status of some of her followers who voted for her.
I would like to know where you got your stats with regards to espousing that 70 per cent or more of the Australian public are in support of this bill.
As for the hint that I might be homophobic because of my views; well let me tell you I'm not.
What I object to is a minority group of people demanding that the laws that have been in place for generations and that we all live by, be changed because they chose to live a different lifestyle.

Here’s some content tips
JUST a suggestion for The Border Mail, (Fairfax), regarding possible improvements.
1. Bring back the Hume and Dartmouth Dam levels daily on weather page, as formerly published.
2. Bring back daily ASX quotes.
3. Get some decent comics in place of half of what is currently published.
4. Discontinue Philipines call centre, for better service and more local employment.
5. IMO, no need to have the Real Estate, Domain section upside down at the rear end.
6. Why do we have to go to page 4 to finish reading a front page story?
And to be honest, I am not sure that the new colour coded articles, change of print size and formatting is a positive at all, as it is harder to read now than before, and just looks like a cross between the free newspaper and Harvey Norman catalogues.

New look is disappointing
AS a regular Border Mail reader, with an interest in font styles as being subtle forms of 'style' I was shocked to find what I feel is a clunky, old-fashioned headline type and body type, which to me, makes the Border look like a conservative, paper from the last century!
I was proud of our paper with its sans-serif fonts, feeling it was a modern-looking, easy to read paper, I am disappointed, but amused others find it easier to read!

Good times roll for pollies
TIMES are hard for most but not our politicians.
We have the ridiculous expenses of Bronwyn Bishop hiring a helicopter to fly her from Melbourne to Geelong, on top of her trip to Europe.
If we have to tighten our belts then it's good enough for them.
If this was private enterprise then it would not be allowed, never get past the taxman. They all do it.
