Are you one of the many that haven’t been going so well on the fishing front?
You've been out a few times for bugger all, your fishing form’s not so good and your confidence is low – so why not go craying?
They do it all the time in footy – you are playing in the ones and not getting a kick so they drop you to the twos to regain your form.
This should work the same as the crays have been great.
Everyone seems to be having great success just about anywhere between Albury and Mulwala.
All you need is a few pots, a couple of carp or other fish for bait (liver is fine too) and a positive attitude.
Grab the family, have a fun day on the river, catch a heap of crays and get that all important confidence back at the same time.
“See, I can catch stuff” – that's what you can be saying to yourself as you head out on the next fishing trip ... but if you get out there and catch bugger all, well, I’ve got nothing else.
Seriously though, the crays have been fantastic.
Just a small tip for those heading for Dartmouth in the next few months.
After the recent event where a man drowned, water police headed back to check out the area the next day.
They found three boats shortly after leaving the first two had five fishos, none wearing life jackets, and the third had a man in the water holding a rope and suffering hypothermia.
Keep in mind this is the day after the body had been found on a weekend where weather predictions were the worst for a long time.
Make sure all your boat safety gear is up to date, check the dates on your life jackets in particular and make sure you are wearing them – these blokes are pretty keen to tighten things up.
In saying all that, the fishing is still pretty reasonable.
Flatlining minnow or cobra style lures still seem to be as good as any ... and you don’t have to travel crazy distances – the ramp area is producing a few nice fish.
Lake Hume is much the same – not heaps of fish but bloody good ones.
Bethanga Bridge to Ludlows is where most trout reports are coming from, and the yellas have kicked on in the Murray arm of the lake.
We’ve had more reports of yellas around trees angling with worms, but fishing from the bank in the Talgarno/Granya area is paying off too.
Mulwala is quiet and the water dirty in patches, while Blowering is producing the odd cod and a few yellas.
The cod are on the troll, while the yellas mainly angling around any structure, with the odd one being spun as well.
Catch ya next week.
