Albury officers attended the 52-year-old's home last Thursday over an unrelated matter and searched the property.
They located two unregistered semi-automatic rifles – a Ruger Mini 14 .223 and an Anschutz .22.
Police removed the weapons along with 23 other guns.
Inspector David Cottee said police regularly conducted random inspections to ensure firearms were being correctly stored.
“If you have a gun it’s your responsibility to make sure the gun is properly and safely stored,” he said.
“That includes having the right type of storage for the classification of the firearm.
“We inspect 100 per cent of storage facilities.”
It was rare to find illegal guns, Inspector Cottee said.
The man has been charged with a string of offences, including two counts of possessing an unregistered firearm, two counts of possessing a prohibited firearm, two counts of using an unregistered prohibited firearm, and storage offences.
The man’s firearms licence was suspended and he will face court on August 18.
