Emergency services were called to the corner of Hume Street and Wodonga Place about 1.15pm Friday.
A vintage Buick heading west on Hume Street is believed to have run a red light and struck a white Holden Astra heading north on Wodonga Place.
The force of the impact badly damaged the Holden and is believed to have thrown the woman in the vintage vehicle from the car.
The 72-year-old received shoulder and chest injuries and was taken to Albury Hospital in a serious condition.
A man aged in his mid-70s was also taken to hospital in a stable condition.
It’s believed the vintage car did not have seatbelts.
Police are investigating the matter.
