Castles, who boasted a previous best of 87 in a season for Jindera and Yackandandah, hit the milestone midway through the final term when he kicked his ninth major.
The former Albury premiership player said he hadn’t even considered bringing up his century against Chiltern.
“Mum told me not to kick it this week because she had organised to get next weekend off work,” Castles said.
“I didn’t give myself a chance.
“It’s a great feeling and I couldn’t really describe it.
“You can’t ask for much more than kicking a ton and beating Chiltern on the same day.”
Castles, 27, was outstanding in kicking nine of Yackandandah’s 11 goals with excellent delivery coming from Arden Greiner, Jack Donaghey and Jake Fisher-Curnow.
Dan Cassidy was strong through the midfield while Danny Atwell blanketed Chiltern coach Mark Doolan.
”I haven’t seen us play like that before,” Castles said.
“The boys found another gear.
“We are out of the top five by a game and percentage so it’s still possible with two games left against Dederang and Thurgoona.
”It was just a really good win by the boys.”
Chiltern appeared leg-weary after playing in atrocious conditions against Kiewa-Sandy Creek last weekend, with Matt Manns, Jaise Coleman and Brad Hibberson forced to carry too much responsibility.
Only a game separates second-placed Chiltern and seventh-placed Yackandandah after another round of upsets.
Wahgunyah edged out Thurgoona by five points in a shoot-out at Wahgunyah.
Cody Milne and Terrence Jones were sensational for the victors with five goals each while coach Nick O’Bryan won plenty of contested ball in the midfield.
Veteran Matt Fowler snared five for the Bulldogs with John Willis and Sam Cross also making major contributions.
Former best and fairest winner Luke Donnan played his first senior match of the season and kicked a goal.
Kiewa-Sandy Creek trounced Dederang-Mount Beauty by 130 points.
Guy Telford took his season tally to 88 with 10 goals while Jye Shields continued his fine season with another 30-plus possession game.
Damien Jones, Dale Lappin and Darren Bradshaw tried hard for the home team.
Rutherglen’s finals dream is still alive after defeating Barnawartha by 22 points with Syd Leatham and Seamus Bromley leading the way.
Mitta United defeated Wodonga Saints by 159 points.
Tyson Gorupic, Nathan Reynoldson and Ben Paton knocked up winning possessions for the Blues while Joel Montgomery and Ryan Jenkins toiled hard for their side.
