The 25-year-old power forward from Dallas, Texas, pipped Donte Nicholas and Deba George for the top gong on Sunday night at the Commercial Club.
The Lady Bandits’ Serbian recruit Kristina Baltic took home the women’s award from local star Tenille Collins and import Ali Bouman.
Dixon’s statistics are through the roof.
The American is averaging 21 points and 11 rebounds a game, and has 265 rebounds - second in the league - and a whopping 505 points - third in the league.
But statistics alone don’t tell the story of a player that’s made the most of his chance.
“He’s helped his team win 17 games and finish on top, you can’t have much greater output than that,” coach Brad Chalmers said.
“I don’t think he’ll be too far out in the league MVP and he should make the All-Star team.”
Dixon said the award could have gone to any of his teammates.
“It’s really a team effort and it goes to the entire team,” he said.
“It’s obviously a big award, especially with how well we are playing.
“It’s good to get noticed by your peers but at the same time I wouldn’t have got that award without my teammates.
“Every game there is people on the team that go unnoticed.”
Dixon certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed.
He was double teamed on Saturday night in the overtime home win over Mount Gambier, and could get more of the same in the playoffs, starting on Saturday night against Geelong at home.
It’s the physicality of the SEABL that he’s struggled with most.
“The league is a lot more physical than it is in college back home,” Dixon said.
“Back home it’s a bit more athletic. I was expecting to come in and play my role and see where I fit in.
“The town’s been great, the people have been great and my teammates are great.”
Chalmers knows it’s going to be hard to keep his star import next season, but it certainly won’t stop him from trying.
“No doubt we will want him back,” he said.
