Doswell, 31, said yesterday increasing work commitments had made it impossible for him to commit to a fourth season in charge.
“I have loved it at Holbrook, but it’s getting harder and harder with work,” Doswell said.
“It’s hard to find the time.
“Holbrook has a good young group coming through and I think the club is in great shape.
“I think 90 per cent of our side is under 24 and we probably only have a handful of guys who come from out of town.
“We just need a few experienced players to help the younger blokes in the side along.”
Doswell has enjoyed another outstanding season for Holbrook and looks set to slot straight back into Wodonga’s midfield next year.
He has played 97 matches with the Ovens and Murray club.
“It was always my plan to get back to Wodonga for a while,” he said.
“I would say that’s what I will do.”
Doswell’s former teammate Jarrod Twitt returned to Wodonga this year after two seasons as co-coach with the star right-footer.
Although Holbrook is sitting in 10th position on the ladder with six wins, Holbrook has some of the best youngsters in the competition with Josh Jones, Luke and Brad Carmen and Andrew Mackinlay leading the way.
The Brookers take on Osborne at Osborne on Saturday before finishing the home and away series against ladder leader Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock.
“It’s a tough run home but we want to finish as strongly as we can,” Doswell said.
Burrumbuttock should continue on its winning way by defeating Lockhart.
The Saints are hitting form at the right time of the season and will be mindful that any slip-ups could jeopardise their hold on top position.
Luke Schilg, Aaron Livermore and Ben Gould have kept the scoreboard ticking over despite the club being without several injured forwards.
Lockhart blew a golden opportunity to bring down Osborne last weekend and coach Shane Lenon will be keen to upset Brocklesby-Burrumbuttock or Henty in the next fortnight.
“I think every side in the comp wants to finish the year as strongly as they can and we’re definitely no different,” Lenon said.
“Hopefully we can put some pressure on the top sides.
“We’re going to have to play at our best though as they are flying.”
Jindera should prove too strong for Billabong Crows.
The Bulldogs need one more win to be guaranteed a spot in the finals and Rhys Preston, Michael Galvin and Sam Myors should get the job done on Saturday.
Murray Magpies play host to Walla and Rand-Walbundrie face a long afternoon against Howlong.
Culcairn has the bye.
