The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) last week announced plans for a shake-up of Canning boundaries which will see suburbs to Mandurah's north such as Armadale and Kelmscott go to a new seat to be called Burt.
Mandurah will become the population centre of the redistributed Canning electorate, with areas of north Mandurah, which are in the seat of Brand, set to move within its boundaries.
Canning will also take on parts of Maddington, Brookton, and Lesmurdie from other electorates.
Enrolment in the electorate is expected to rise from 91,217 people as of 2014 to 96,717 projected for 2017.
The AEC said that the redistribution would have no impact on the byelection to be held on September 19 and would take effect from the next general election.
