Even Star FM duo Tom Bainbridge and Olly Morris are sifting through racks of pre-loved clothing to find new threads. 

Morris is what you would call an enthusiastic op-shopper – he has a pair of leather pants inspired by Freddie Mercury in his wardrobe. 

“I used to hate it – mum used to make me do it – but I started to enjoy it,” he said

“You save money, there is less consumerism, people are less materialistic and it promotes recycling.

“Rather than an op shop I like to call it an opportunity shop – there’s real opportunity for discovery.”

Bainbridge, an owner of a brand new Apple watch, is clearly not thrifty but said he could see the appeal.

St Vincent de Paul Society retail area manager for Albury and South West NSW, Alan Dickens, encouraged people to donate clothing and said 70 cents from every dollar spent in op shops went back to people in need.
