The winner of the Murray District Golf Association’s Thurgoona Open on September 6 will be invited to play in the New South Wales Open.
Association captain Jason Cawthray said he was thrilled that Golf NSW had chosen the Thurgoona tournament to act as one of a number of regional qualifiers.
“This is the first time regional golfers have had an opportunity to qualify for the NSW Open as an amateur,” Cawthray said.
“Getting an invite to the Open is usually reserved for the elite bracket of players, so this is a really exciting time.
“Before now it had been difficult to attract players who wanted to travel to the high level tournaments in Sydney.
“Now our local talent has an opportunity to get some experience against the best.”
Yarrawonga star Frazer Droop is a confirmed starter, as is Mark Emmerson.
