Chair of the Community Action group for the chalet David Jacobson said he felt “positive” about Minister Lisa Neville's outlook on the project.
Mr Jacobson was joined by Murray Valley MP Tim McCurdy, Tourism North East chief executive Sara Quon and the Alpine Shire Mayor Jan Vonarx and chief executive Dave Barry in the meeting.
He said he wanted a unified presentation in support of the government's plan to demolish 60 per cent and keep 40 per cent of the chalet to be used as a day visitor centre and cafe under current proposal.
“Prior to the meeting we were fairly pessimistic about the chalets survival,” Mr Jacobson said.
The chalet first opened in 1910, however ongoing maintenance has not been enough to curb the building's deterioration.
It closed more than eight years ago and a funding shortfall in the budget has prevented it from reopening, scheduled for next year.
Mr Jacobson said they will give the minister time to digest the information before another meeting is held to brief all parties on where the government is at with the funding.
