Brosque admits he was initially disappointed for the club to lose the likes of last season's top scorer, Marc Janko, winger Bernie Ibini and Socceroo Terry Antonis during the off-season but believes the Sky Blues will be stronger in 2015-16 due to a more versatile attacking play.

There is less of a reliance on a single target man and more varied routes to goal in a forward line-up boasting players capable of playing many positions and interchanging with ease mid-game. The arrivals of Slovakian international Filip Holosko, former Serbian international Milos Ninkovic and Young Socceroo Andrew Hoole added a degree of unpredictability to Sydney's attack, according to Brosque, as well as more tactical options for coach Graham Arnold.

"I think the main thing for this year is how adaptable a lot of players are to different positions. Last year, it's not that we didn't have plan B but if things weren't working we couldn't stray too much. Now we have more players who can play all across the front line and this year we've got a bit more versatility this year and players who can adapt quicker. For me, if that means I play as a number 10, out wide or even as a number nine it remains to be seen," Brosque said.

Sydney's captain singled out praise for the arrival of former Dynamo Kiev star Milos Ninkovic who has impressed his teammates despite limited time with his new club.

"Ninkovic, he's what you'd expect from a number 10 and according to [Sydney FC midfielder] Milos Dimitrijevic, he thinks he's an even better player. He [Dimitrijevic] won the player of the year award last year and to think we've got another Milos who might even better is exciting," Brosque said.

Squad changes have created for a more youthful composition of Sydney FC particularly in the backline, where 25-year-old defender Matt Jurman is preparing to assume more of a leadership role this season.

"We do have a young team now in general and I'm probably one of the older boys in the back now. I'd have to bring that leadership to the backline now and it's part of what I need to do as a defender but we do have leaders all over the field as well," Jurman said.

Brosque is on the comeback from a groin injury and is yet to resume full training with the rest of the squad but is expected to be fit for Sydney FC's opening league game against Melbourne City on October 10.

"I think so, unless something unforeseen happens between now and then but the plan is to be back well and truly before round one and I'll have enough time to get a few games under my belt before the start of the season," Brosque said.
