After a tiresome rampage between 8pm and 11pm, one of the boys finished up at Cundy Park for a sip of moscato, which had earlier been stolen from the Ovens Valley United Cricket Club.

Leading Senior Constable Bernard Murphy said their “penchant for sickly sweet wine” may be their undoing.

“People are inclined to leave traces on bottles,” Sen-Const Murphy Said.

“We know the bottles were stolen from the cricket club and we know they were drunk when they harassed a woman at the Caltex service station earlier in the night.”

The vandals entered the cricket club which they trashed before stealing the bat, blower vac and alcohol.

Using the bat, they smashed four rear car windows in a dark corner of the hospital car park off O'Donnell Avenue.

They then struck 300m down the road at St Mary's Primary School where they shattered windows at the Junior Learning Centre.

Principal Ashley Marsh said the damage bill came to about $6000.

“It's just disappointing for the kids and for our younger students - they don't understand why this has happened,” Mr Marsh said.

“It affected two of our classes. Kids have had to have lessons in other rooms.”

The offenders also smashed beer bottles in the Mountain View Children's Centre, preventing children from playing outside the following morning.  

Buffalo Farm Equipment had nine windows broken costing about $1500.

A Myrtleford woman who had been filling up her car on Thursday night called police to say she too had been harassed by two boys.

Police have footage of the offenders at the service station and said marks on the cricket bat were consistent with shattered glass.

Police spotted one of the boys in Cundy Park after the rampage, but he ran away leaving behind the alcohol and stolen items.
