Officers in the North East will conduct Operation Scoreboard and expect increased vehicles on the road as people head to AFL grand final parties.
Sergeant Cameron Roberts said police would conduct thousands of drink driving tests in the region along with drug tests.
“The drug driving strike rate is one-in-three or one-in-four in the whole division,” he said.
“Our members use their judgment in testing people and generally get it quite right.
“With alcohol breath testing, we anticipate we will testing into the thousands.”
While many people drink on Saturday for the grand final, Sergeant Roberts said that didn’t necessarily lead to more road issues.
Albury officers will also be enforcing double demerit points from Friday to Monday as NSW hosts the NRL grand final.
Increased traffic is expected over the long weekend.
