The grade two pupil will cut 35cm off her hair to donate for a wig to children’s charity Variety, who are committed to helping sick Australian children.
Her Mum, Fiona, said the seven-year-old was happy she had smashed her original fundraising target of $100.
“We’re up to $880 now,” she said on Tuesday.
“Elizabeth hasn’t really had a haircut so to go from long to short is a big thing for her.”
Mrs Powles said Elizabeth was thrilled she was giving her hair to help children.
“She’s excited at the thought someone will get long hair that may not have had a chance to,” she said.
Mrs Powles said the idea came from Elizabeth’s gymnastics teacher.
“Her teacher had it cut for a wig and Elizabeth is speaking to people about why she is doing it,” she said.
Elizabeth turns eight next week and said donating her hair felt like “an early birthday present.”
