MORE than 30 world champion axemen will vie for state and national titles at the Albury Show wood chopping competition later this month.

David Foster, a world champion 188 times, will compere the wood chopping events, which include the Victorian Combination Championship and the Australian Unlimited Hot Saw Championship.
Foster will also compete alongside opponents such as Sydney Royal Show multiple world title holder Lawrence O'Toole, Australian champion David Coffey and the reigning Albury Show champion Jarrod Williams.
Albury Show Society said the wood chopping event offered more than $5500 prize money, making it one of the biggest in the Riverina and country Victoria.
The competition will take place on October 31, the second day of the annual show.
Foster will present exhibition cutting the previous day from 5pm.
He will then host an invitation-only charity evening which raises money for Country Hope Albury.
